| Thanks to Volusia County's ambitious
Art in Public
Places program, the creations of 76 artists from across
the nation adorn the walls and courtyards of 16 county facilities.
The Volusia County Council
established the program
in 1990 to establish funding for procurement of
art in
county-owned and operated buildings. Since then,
0.5 to 1 percent
of the construction price for all new, expanded and renovated publicly
accessible county buildings has been set aside for the acquisition of
artwork for permanent display.
More than $1 million has been
appropriated to purchase more than 200 pieces of art that represent a
wide range
of media including acrylic, oil, watercolor, aluminum,
bronze, marble, clay, fiber, wood and photography.
